ITALIAN RICE

Round grain rice

Round grain rice varieties are an Italian excellence, their grains are small and rounded and their length never exceed 5,2 mm. The varieties of round grain rice can serve different uses: puffing, pudding, milling and sushi, such as the Selenio rice.

Medium grain rice

The length of medium grain rice is between 5,2 mm and 6 mm and its grains are about two to three times longer than they are wide. Its use depends on the different types of medium grain rice: Vialone Nano rice is used for the preparation of risotto, while Crono rice for ethnic dishes or sushi.

Long A grain rice / Risotto rice

The world of long A grain rice is vast and varied, it includes different types and with different uses. Its grains are longer than 6 mm and are about two to three times longer than they are wide. The different types of long A grain rice are used for parboiling, for industrial use and for the preparation of risotto in HORECA business.

Long B grain rice

The most cultivated rice variety in Italy is the Long B grain rice. Its grains are long (6 mm or more) and thin and four to five times as long as they are wide. The main use of long B grain rice is for ethnic dishes but can serve also for rice flour milling. The aromatic rice type has a natural fragrance as some Eastern types of rice.

Medium grain rice

The varieties of EU and non-EU medium grain rice are a lot and have different uses, from industrial use to sushi, such as the Calrose rice.

Long grain rice

The Indica rice is the most cultivated rice in the world, its grains are longer than 6,2 mm and four to five times as long as they are wide. Its different types can be the aromatic one, as Basmati and Jasmine rice, or one of the Spanish excellence, the Puntal rice.
