Rice husk | Rice husks, also called rice hulls, are the protective coverings, formed from hard materials, including silica and lignin, of rice grains which are separated from the grains during milling process. In the course of a typical milling process, the husks are removed from the raw grain to reveal whole brown rice. |
Rice bran | Rice bran is produced during the second stage in milling, the whitening or polishing process, when the bran layer is removed from the brown rice kernel. Rice bran has a high nutritive value and contains 10-23% bran oil. |
Broken rice | Broken rice consists in grains broken in the milling process. Rice broken kernels are 25% or less of the original length of the grain and represent 2-3% of processed rice production. |
